CRRT – Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy
CRRT is a form of continuous dialysis given over 24 hours to critically ill patients
with renal failure associated with hypotension.
Indications of CRRT
- Acute kidney injury (AKI) with shock or unstable blood pressure
- Uremic complications (encephalopathy, pericarditis)
- Sepsis with multiorgan dysfunction
- Hyperammonemia
- Certain poisonings and tumor lysis syndrome
Benefits of CRRT
- Maintains better hemodynamic stability
- Provides continuous and gentle fluid removal
- Reduces risk of sudden hypotension
Hemodialysis
Hemodialysis is a type of dialysis that performs the normal functions of the kidneys
when they have failed, in patients with stable or normal blood pressure.
Indications of Hemodialysis
- Fluid overload
- Hyperkalemia
- Severe metabolic acidosis
- Certain poisonings
- End-stage kidney disease
