CRRT – Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy

CRRT is a form of continuous dialysis given over 24 hours to critically ill patients with renal failure associated with hypotension.

Indications of CRRT

  • Acute kidney injury (AKI) with shock or unstable blood pressure
  • Uremic complications (encephalopathy, pericarditis)
  • Sepsis with multiorgan dysfunction
  • Hyperammonemia
  • Certain poisonings and tumor lysis syndrome

Benefits of CRRT

  • Maintains better hemodynamic stability
  • Provides continuous and gentle fluid removal
  • Reduces risk of sudden hypotension

Hemodialysis

Hemodialysis is a type of dialysis that performs the normal functions of the kidneys when they have failed, in patients with stable or normal blood pressure.

Indications of Hemodialysis

  • Fluid overload
  • Hyperkalemia
  • Severe metabolic acidosis
  • Certain poisonings
  • End-stage kidney disease
